SEEBURGER IDnet Overview

The First Hosted Solution for Basic RFID Compliance

Overview

SEEBURGER’s IDnet is the first hosted solution designed to enable companies to quickly and cost-effectively implement a basic “slap and ship” program for compliance with radio frequency identification mandates. Running on the Seeburger RFID Gateway engine, IDnet hosts the software required to match barcodes to RFID/EPC codes, print RFID/barcode labels, verify label operation at point of shipping, automatically generate and transmit advance shipping notices (ASNs), and maintain records of all transactions. Full system deployment can be completed in less than five working days, while printing can be performed at the customer site or through a third-party service bureau.

Market Need

RFID initiatives by organizations from Wal-Mart to the U.S. Department of Defense are presenting major challenges to suppliers in virtually every industry. Over the next few years, tens of thousands of vendors — including at least 45,000 contractors to the DoD alone — must comply with mandates requiring that they apply RFID tags to all cases and pallets shipped to these organizations, as a means of improving the tracking of goods throughout the supply chain. Smaller companies frequently cannot afford to purchase, install and manage the software required to meet these demands, while many larger firms are finding that their RFID implementations will not go live in time to meet customer deadlines. As a hosted solution, IDnet eliminates the upfront capital expenses and ongoing overhead associated with generating labels and advance shipping notices, managing these and related functions through a dedicated system at SEEBURGER’s own data center for a low monthly fee.

IDnet Hosted Services

  • UPC/EPC code matching, offering the ability to generate EPC-compliant Global Trade Item Numbers (GTIN) to correspond to a list of UPC barcodes supplied by the customer.
  • Printing of RFID/barcode labels, enabling customers to log into a secure website and issue printing instructions online. Both case and pallet labels can be printed on demand with an on-site printer rented or purchased under the program, or — for smaller quantities — by a third-party service bureau with 24- to 48-hour delivery to eliminate the cost of printer.
  • Creation and transmission of advance shipping notices, allowing an ASN to be generated automatically whenever a print command is issued and then placed in a queue until the order is shipped. At that time, the customer instructs the system to send the ASN by logging into the IDnet website. IDnet EDI transmission/receipt functions will allow for ASN configuration in multiple formats. IDnet will also verify receipt of the ASN and can be used to automatically generate an invoice for fast and automatic payment.
  • Label verification, an optional service that reads labels at the point of shipping and identifies defective tags before they leave the warehouse.
  • Complete reporting capabilities, including an audit trail of all print jobs, time of shipping, label verification (if used) and advance shipping notices.

IDnet Business Benefits

  • No upfront investment or software installation, simplifying RFID compliance for smaller companies as well as larger organizations that need an interim solution while they are implementing a full-scale in-house RFID system.
  • Fast five-day deployment, eliminating long implementation times that can interfere with internal operations as well as put new suppliers without an existing RFID program at a serious disadvantage.
  • Low fees of under $500 per month, covering the IDnet hosting service and a fully configured label printer. Prices can be further reduced by using an outside service bureau for printing labels. Minimum contract is 24 months.
  • EDI transmit/receipt, running on the Seeburger RFID Workbench/PRO engine, that eases the otherwise labor-intensive procedures involved in producing and sending advance shipping notices and electronic invoices.
  • Printer and reader pre-configuration, through SEEBURGER’s preferred partnerships with Printronix Inc., NCR Corporation and Symbol/Matrics Technologies.
  • Scalability, with an option of upgrading to two different editions of SEEBURGER’s installed RFID Workbench middleware.
  • DoD and EPCglobal compliance for UIDs, SGTINs, MSL129P Shipping Labels, WAWF Interface for 856 EDI Submission and DD250

Upgrade Options

  • RFID Workbench/Standard, a standalone RFID operating solution for pilot projects and standalone operations including tag verification, EPC/UPC product code matching, event management and alarm activation, local event configuration, graphical displays, and a variety of other features enabling companies to implement RFID projects quickly and economically.
  • RFID Workbench/PRO, incorporating all Workbench Standard features plus seamless integration of RFID data to ERP, WMS or MIS systems; linking of databases for filtering, comparison and analysis of RFID information; and EDI transmission of ASN or electronic invoices to external partners.
