Best Practices in International Trading

SEEBURGER, a SAP software solution and technology partner, helps now more than 200 customers switch to ATLAS 8.4/AES 2.1 smoothly and on time

07/16/2013

Bretten – SEEBURGER today announced that in cooperation with SAP, it successfully implemented the new version of the SAP® Global Trade Services application for more than 200 customers. These customers, who are exporters and importers, are now able to benefit from higher data quality, faster introduction and execution processes, international trade compliance and uniform foreign trade practices across the entire enterprise. SAP Global Trade Services will also be necessary to implement the innovations requested by the German customs authority.

In releases ATLAS 8.4 and AES 2.1 of the German customs solutions, the custom number is replaced by the Economic Operators’ Registration and Identification number (EORI number) in all customs procedures as of January 31, 2013. Meanwhile the German customs authorities are announcing the next set of changes for September 2013, which will contain ATLAS 8.4.5 and AES 2.2. Enterprises that operate in international trade are therefore forced to continually update their software. This is the only way they can comply with constantly changing international legislation, integrate the electronic means of communication of government and customs authorities, and avoid costly delays.

“With the development of ATLAS 8.4 and AES 2.1 by the German customs authority we have fundamentally revised and harmonised the EDI communication solution for German customs regulations,” says Rainer Bartel, Vice President Consulting at SEEBURGER AG. “Thanks to a central rollout service, all customer systems can be clearly structured and standardised, which significantly helps to reduce the implementation budget of the SEEBURGER solution for GTS and simplifies its support”.

SEEBURGER provides B2B integration solutions for customs systems. This includes transfers of iDoc messages, conversions to the EDIFACT format and technical transfers to customs authorities. With the flexible SEEBURGER Business Integration Server, the varying requirements of customs authorities in Europe and in the U.S. can be met easily. Moreover, SEEBURGER's certified customs management solution for ATLAS 8.4 and AES 2.1 is not restricted to Germany – it is currently available for another 14 countries. Large customers use it to process up to 30,000 export declarations per month.

SEEBURGER and SAP have been collaborating closely in the B2B communication area for SAP Global Trade Services. The EDI B2B solution from SEEBURGER is an excellent example of how a partner’s expertise can be combined with the strengths of the SAP Global Trade Services application. The SAP Global Trade Services application is based on the SAP NetWeaver® technology platform and can be integrated into existing landscapes of solutions from SAP and other vendors.

On the German tax authorities' key date of January 31, 2013, the new ATLAS 8.4 version went live for over 200 customers, including companies such as Merck, Metabo and Merckle Group.
