Yazaki Europe Ltd. consolidates B2B gateways and updates with tailored automotive industry functionality

The modernization project will accelerate business and logistics processes, while lowering TCO

04/14/2015

As the world’s largest producer of wiring harnesses and a worldwide market leader in the automotive industry, Yazaki required a backend system that could integrate its logistics partners (3PL), inter-company processes and more than 500 EDI providers.

A recent acquisition provided an opportunity to tie together a modernization project with a consolidation project all using the SEEBURGER Business Integration Server (BIS6).

Currently, Yazaki is consolidating nine locations of Yazaki Systems Technologies GmbH from BIS5 to the B2B Packaged Solution Automotive in the central BIS6 platform. The increased message volume is composed of approximately 200,000 EDI messages per day, which will now be processed even more efficiently and securely.

‘‘EDI projects are largely implemented in-house at Yazaki. SEEBURGER Professional Services support the Yazaki EDI team with project questions and for training when needed,’’ explains Yazaki Europe Ltd., EDI Manager Kai-Uwe Plonke, who praises the flexibility of the technology which is enabling the existing solution to integrate with new capabilities.

Yazaki first began its relationship with SEEBURGER in 2004, when it migrated to SEEBURGER’s B2B gateway. The current project, now underway, utilizes the existing SEEBURGER B2B gateway and supplements it with functionality specific to the automotive industry, including templates for standard processes and communication types (from OFTP to AS2), as well as conversion (VDA to Global EDIFACT), and it interfaces with Yazaki’s SAP ERP through the SEEBURGER B2B Packaged Solution Automotive. SEEBURGER’s end-to-end monitoring tool, "BIS Message Tracking" included in the standard automotive product delivery, increases transparency and enables the Yazaki division to respond to the EDI messages in real-time, thereby significantly reducing the time involved in troubleshooting with partners.

Automotive industry mappings are also part of the pre-packaged solution that enables the EDI team to quickly and easily integrate new mappings to successfully onboard new partners. With this functionality, the EDI team is able to onboard more efficiently and to react faster to requests from line of business.

Yazaki now uses a central BIS6 to connect 31 of its locations, including production plants and customer service centers within Europe.
