That includes scenarios involving multiple systems, asynchronous processing, decoupling, centralized monitoring, B2B or EDI processes, or legacy integration.

In practice, APIs, OData, and events are essential building blocks. Middleware is what turns them into an integration architecture that is stable, scalable, and manageable over time.

Business Central includes capabilities for electronic document exchange and e-documents, such as sending and receiving electronic business documents and supporting provider-based scenarios like PEPPOL. In F&SCM, Microsoft also provides features for electronic invoicing.

In practice, however, that is often not enough for broader B2B and EDI requirements. Once companies need to exchange documents such as purchase orders, advance shipping notices, or invoices with a large number of partners, support different EDI standards and communication protocols, or manage partner-specific mappings, monitoring, and governance, an additional integration layer usually becomes the better approach.

There is usually no single standard path for connecting legacy systems to Dynamics 365.
